Greetings:

It is a pleasure to be a teacher at EHS. I am currently teaching different levels of Spanish and I enjoy helping my students to understand the importance and the use of the Spanish language as a bridge to other cultures. I combine our Spanish curriculum with Latin American Studies, Spanish/Hispanic Literature, Cinema, Visual Arts, Music, and all the creativity and interaction that my pupils bring to the classroom. During the academic year my students work with a variety of tasks that challenge them with multicultural and linguistic experiences while they participate and create different assignments and learn new skills that will help them to communicate with people from other cultures.

Before coming to EHS I worked with the Department of Defense as an Assistant Professor of Spanish at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLI) in Monterey, California. I have also studied and worked teaching, researching, and advising in different universities and colleges including the Université de Paris-Sorbonne, Paris IV, France; Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium; Florida International University, Miami; University of Miami; University of West Florida, Pensacola; Miami Dade College (Wolfson Campus); Troy University, Alabama; and the Central University of Venezuela.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in History; an M.A. in Spanish Literature; an M.Ed. in Adult Education and Development; a Doctoral Study in Spanish; and, a Doctoral Study in Literature. I am a member of Alpha Chi Honor Society (DC), and Golden Key International Honor Society. In my free time I enjoy going to the beach, cooking, reading, sharing books and music, conducting research, playing instruments, and most importantly, spending time and taking care of my lovely daughter Zia.
