IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOOL FLU CLINICS:
LETTER TO PARENTS (JANUARY 27, 2010)
January 27, 2010
Dear Parents,
The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) will conduct H1N1/flu school clinics for the second dose of the Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine (LAIV) for students ages 9 and younger. The first dose was administered in early December of 2009. It is required to administer the second dose of the nasal mist at least a minimum of 30 days from the first dose.
Participation in school flu clinics is completely voluntary. Vaccines will be administered only with parent/guardian signed consent.
School nurses and nurses employed by the Alabama State Health Department will administer the flu vaccines. Students who refuse to receive the immunization will not receive it.
School Flu Clinics for students ages 9 and under:
Wednesday, February 3, 2010
Schools:
Pinedale, Hillcrest, Harrand Creek, Holly Hill, College Street, and Rucker Blvd.
Beginning at 8:30 am at the first school and rotating to all other schools
Enterprise Early Education Center - 10:30 am
The delivery method for students ages 9 and under is with a nasal spray/mist flu vaccine referred to as LAIV. Flu vaccines (nasal-spray and injectable ) cause antibodies to develop in the body that provide protection against infection. For some children this will be their first nasal mist vaccination. These students will need to contact the health department or your health care provider for the second dose.
Children with allergies, asthma, diabetes, immunosuppression, heart disease, and neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy and seizures will not be administered the nasal spray/mist at school. Please contact your health care provider for further information.
If you have any questions, please contact the nurse at your child's school. Feel free to visit our website at http://www.enterpriseschools.net/ for additional information.
Sincerely,
Jim Reese,
Superintendent
